Have you ever wanted to add a design to your pottery, but had no idea where to start? Have you heard the term "underglaze" thrown around and didn't know what that meant? If the answer to either of those is yes, this is the workshop for you!
In this 2 hour workshop, we will be covering three techniques that use underglaze as a form of surface decoration on clay: screen printing, decal transfers, and gel plate printing. The workshop will start with a short lecture on the differences between underglaze and glaze, and then transition into a hands on demo that shows these three techniques. Students will be shown how to make their own custom stencil using a Cricut and an iron, and how to use the stencil to either transfer the design directly onto the clay, transfer the design using a gel plate, or make custom decal transfers using rice paper. The workshop will also cover the basics of store-bought decal transfers and painting with underglaze in general.
